If You Try To Blame The Economy (Or Anything Else) For Where You Are In Your Business, Nothing Will Change For You, Even If That “Something” Changes
It’s so funny to me now, but it wasn’t funny back then. I was PISSED.
I would get so upset and frustrated when all the closed-minded “9 to 5 zombies” wouldn’t listen to me babble on about my product that would change their lives! LOL!
Later on, of course, I learned that the problem was actually me.
My communication skills were the absolute worst. I thought everyone else would just “get it” like I did, but when they didn’t, I thought they were seriously just plain “stupid”!
Now, each and every one of us would love to blame anyone and anything beside ourselves for what happens (or doesn’t happen) in our business, but the harsh truth is, our business or quality of life has nothing to with “external” circumstances. And if you’re going to try to defend your own ego and beliefs on that, then you’re taking away your own personal power.
You have the power to achieve everything you’ve ever wanted, but every decision you have ever made, (or the decision to not make a decision), has led you up to where you are right now.
If you want change, you must change your thoughts, beliefs, actions, and decisions. It’s the catchy phrase…
You can’t change people. You can only change yourself. There is no “outside” circumstance or event that is controlling your business. Only you.
I hear friends blaming their their crappy boss for being lame and firing them, and then the economy for not being able to find another job. I hear entrepreneurs say their business is failing because people weren’t showing up or buying anything! I too used to blame other people and circumstances for my own home business not going anywhere!
I hear people saying “if I find a better job”, things will be better, as if it’s going to fix their problems.
WARNING!! It’s not going to fix your problems! The problems will always be there. In fact, if you do end up making a bunch more money, you’ll have a bunch more problems!
The difference is, leaders make their “problems” very small, very quickly, and instead of even thinking they have “problems”, they find delight in calling them little challenges to find the solutions, (with no stories or excuses), and by doing so, they become even more valuable to others, because they found the solutions that other people are looking for, and they capitalize on that value too.
You can try and try and try to blame and find external reasons, but the truth is, you must:
A Race To Bring Value Into The Marketplace
If you can’t seem to get ahead, or get laid off, or simply not making enough profit in your business…
It was because you’re not bringing enough value into the market place. In order to be valuable, you must invest the time into yourself, by skilling up , finding the solutions, getting creative, and taking massive focused action with newer better ideas that actually work! When you do find the solutions and you overcome the challenge, that makes you ultra valuable to someone else that is looking for that same solution!
When people can’t find a job, it is mostly because the other people that fought raced for that same exact job had invested time and probably money to become more valuable. When I was stagnant in my business, I went out and invested time and money, taking massive action to grow and become more skilled in the Home Business market space.
Some people (like my friend Ricky, who has many skills, and who everyone adores), invested years to make himself more valuable (and like-able), and now many different companies fight over him, even though he already has a few jobs. I have a friend Jody that has the best positive and friendly attitude. He gets proposed to by huge companies almost every month, just because people like him. He goes “above and beyond” for everything and everyone, even when he doesn’t have to. He made himself valuable.
As savvy Home Business owners, we must skill up, investing the time to adapt to new ideas, and learning more and more each day. Those who grow valuable are the ones whose businesses grow. The business owners who blame the “the bad economy”, the “location” or “other people”, and stick to their old beliefs and strategies that don’t work, are the ones who stop growing, and eventually fizzle out and quit. I remember talking on the phone all day with different distributors on my team, thinking to myself, “I’m sitting here handcuffed to my phone all day, trying to talk about freedom, when I’m not free!”
Something has got to change!
But it didn’t. Because I didn’t.
I sat there trying same old stuff that didn’t work for another 2 years…
Adapt Or Die. No “Ostrich Approach”
15 years ago, talking to people on the phone, one at a time, meeting in hotel rooms, and doing business overviews in people’s houses was still working. But in today’s fast-paced changing world, business and strategy changed because of the internet. 15 years ago in snowboarding, the same thing was happening on the business side. The businesses who adapted and got creative, who went out of their comfort zone to jump online, or learn online marketing, are the ones who ended up thriving. The old mom and pop shops all went out of business. Now we all realize that we can buy a better quality product, direct from a company, online, by cutting out the “middle-man” – (old school brick and mortar retail store).
Most of my millionaire friends, (who do insanely effective marketing, spreading information online, and then connecting the consumer with what they’re already looking for), have all come from home-based business, using laptops and cellphones.
This business model of cutting out the old school brick and mortar middle man is WAY more efficient, and it’s the only way the savvy heads want to work.
Social media if most effective, because you can leverage your numbers, helping the information spread like wildfire, and you can also save tons of time by laser targeting your audience (instead of throwing spaghetti on the wall and see if anything sticks, one at a time) like they did 15 years ago.
Any business owner can now have many different solutions in their niche, and they can partner with many different companies that have those solutions. This means multiple channels of income, which ultimately means freedom, financially…
So, if you have a Home Business, and your current strategy is not working very well, (like chasing dis-interested “9 to 5” programmed zombies and getting stood up at hotel meetings, you must ADAPT OR DIE. Don’t do the zombie thing and surrender to bad programming, saying “no” before you even know what you’re saying “no” to.
I knew that the best way to predict the future of my business was to create it, and that meant being open to new information that transformed my business with cutting edge strategy. If you’re open enough to learn some simple strategies to target and connect with entrepreneur minds who already “get it”, then you’ll have nobody to blame but yourself for why you finally made it with your Home Business!
