I once heard from a wealthy mentor of mine:
– If you fear losing money, then you will be a “loser of money” and stay BROKE.
It took me a while to “get it”, but I later found out through experience, that when you have a big fear of losing money, then you will never even take the risk, and you will lose out on millions of dollars you would have made, which is the biggest risk of all.
The decision to “pass” on opportunity is deadly.
Instead of taking control and owning your life, you may wait around for a “lucky break” or “lottery” ticket.
Every mentor says, “Success doesn’t give you what you want or “need“, it gives you what you deserve”.
Have you deserved success by making the good decisions that are necessary – like the discipline it takes to save the $5 per day (instead of the $5 coffee), and invest it into an asset? I didn’t realize this for years, and I sure paid for it later.
I once heard from a wealthy mentor of mine:
– If you fear rejection, then you will be a reject.
Same rules apply here. If you don’t face your fear being rejected, then you will never even try, ensuring that the answer is always a “NO”!
Remember back in high school, when you wanted to go on a date with that person you were interested in, but you were so fearful of getting told “no”, that you never even asked, as your worst fear became a reality.
When you don’t go for it, your reality is always a “NO”.
Hmmm… Do we see some consistencies here? …
Most people fear failure so much that, they never even try, or even get started.
Some people even tell themselves, “well what if I succeed, it’ll be so much pressure!” and “I’ll pry have to pay tons in taxes!” and “but people hate rich people!”
This internal dialogue is your subconscious. It is most powerful, with the ability to sabotage any success you thought you had a chance for.
If you have a fear of other people’s opinions, (in other words, care about what people might think about you), then you will never do anything that will be worth talking about.
I always let people know…
If you aren’t doing any out of the ordinary, (extraordinary), then yes, people won’t be talking (crap) about you, (good or bad), which means you are probably are not very successful.
If you fear the “unfamiliar” and only “stick to what you know” and “play it safe”, then you won’t be catching any waves of success.
If you stay doing what “everybody else does”, never “venturing out” into the “unknown” or “uncharted areas”, then you will not ever be “at the right place at the right time”, and will not be one of what they call the “lucky ones”.
If you look around, you see that followers always wait for things to be “safe”, like sheep – until “everybody else is doing it”, and then they take action.
However, to catch the waves of success, it is all about timing. Same as surfing. You can’t be on top of it. You can’t be behind it. You must be way in front of the wave, and READY.
Those who make the big bucks are the ones who took the risk, before “everybody else” caught on. They know it’s about “preparation” meeting “opportunity”.
If you choose to live a life of leadership, then you take massive and immediate action when great opportunities are presented. You go after it, even if it takes you into unfamiliar territories.
The traditionalists stick to what everybody else does, waiting until it is more familiar, “safe”, or “normal” in the marketplace. Those who are too uncomfortable to get acquainted with the “unfamiliar” remain skeptical to “new” things, even if their old ideas are not working.
I’ve heard a few people say “it seems like it’s too good to be true”. They are absolutely right, it IS too good to be true, but ONLY for THEM.
Those with the “glass half full”, who say “this is too good to pass up” are the ones who successfully (and consistently) catch waves.
Why is it that for some people, success just seems consistently effortless? It is because they decide quickly and take massive action. They know that even if they try, and fail, they still had a better chance at success than not trying at all.
So why do others sit and struggle, month after month, settling for what life gives them?
It is because even when they are at the “right place right time” and they should be taking massive and immediate action, they decide to stay with “I just don’t have the money right now”, and “yeah, I’ll get to it later”.
What about you? Have you ever accidentally sabotaged your own success? Some people do it, over and over and over again, without every realizing it. They watch waves pass by, watching other people “get lucky”, at the same time thinking (in quiet desperation), “nothing lucky ever happens to me!”
So here’s an idea…

The World Is Yours, M!
So how can you even possibly get a better lifestyle than a pro snowboarder?
Well when you’re younger, there is nothing better. Pro snowboarding is the ultimate dream life. We get paid to do what we love . It is absolutely the best lifestyle EVER…
After I paid my dues, crashing and burning, getting back up, over and over again, breaking more bones in my body that you can think of, in and out of hospitals, I had made it! LOL.
I traveled the world the world, for over 15 years, fully living the dream. I had endless energy, tons of money, and total freedom, (or at least I thought so at the time). It really was the best life – what every single person dreams of.
The harsh reality is, there’s a shelf life for every athlete. The big problem for 95% of them is that they think it’s going to last forever. You get older, and when it comes, it comes fast. But on the good side, you gain wisdom if you stay humble and your ego doesn’t get in the way. My challenge was, I had tasted a lifestyle of traveling and freedom, so there was no way I could go back to normalcy.
I was psychologically unemployable!Â
I could never put up with anybody telling me what to do all day at a job, having a say over how much money I’m worth, or when I can go on vacation, so pro snowboarding was such a blessing to me! LOL!
Even though I had the best life, I remember the feeling of just wanting to relax once in a while, because I was beat up and exhausted. I wanted to sleep in. I wanted more time with my kids.
When I started to read books, I realized I was most definitely not “making money while you sleep“, like my other wealthy friends and mentors were doing. I was on yearly contracts for money, so if I stopped snowboarding, I stopped getting paid – the same as any other normal employee or small business owner who works for what I now know what is called linear income.
Then one day I was watching a documentaries on pro athletes and saw that 95% of all athletes never took action to set themselves up with a “Plan B”, and ended up with nothing when their career was coming to a close. Within 3 years they are basically divorced and bankrupt. We can’t help but think “it’ll last at least a few more years”, and all of a sudden you hit the wall, or get injured, and then frantically scramble, trying to transition into something else, starting from scratch. They hadn’t invested their spare time to gain another skill. I see this over and over and over again, and wow it’s rough, they’re toast.
Now, if you grow grow wise fast enough, you come to the realization that time is more valuable than money. So when I sat down and invested in myself for some wealth and life mastery coaching, we gained clarity on some uncomfortable realities that most of our egos won’t even allow us to admit. Like most, I didn’t have any sort of leverage. I learned that the reason I was always busy and never had time for my own family, was because nobody could take my place and be Marc Frank Montoya if I was gone on vacation. I found out that this is why I hadn’t even gone on vacation in 4 years. I was basically screwed, with only 1 person responsible for my income – ME.
If I didn’t make a change, things would stay the same.
The more wealth books I read and seminars I went to, the more frustrated I would get, having this feeling of having to work for linear income until I was 65 years old. HELL NO.
I wanted the life that my mentor friends had. All I knew was that they worked from home, and had all of that financial abundance and time freedom. It seemed too good to be true for me when they would talk about it, but my friend Scott, (who was making around $90k/week), would say, “yeah, it’s only too good to be true for the fools who think they’re not worthy of it”.
On powder days, my friend T.B. would fly in from his mansion in Costa Rica to ride the powder for the week, He’d call me up and invite me, but I’d have to turn him down because I had to go work and film when it was powder. I hated that, because I just wanted to ride powder with my friends. He’d start at 9am and be done by 1pm, and then work on his laptop in front of the fire for a few hours in the evening. I was so jealous.
Pfft, I just wanted more free time for myself and my kids.
I became obsessed with knowing more, and how to get free, financially, so I could build a better lifestyle, without having to go back to some crappy job with a ridiculous boss in control of my life like I had before. There was no way I was gonna go back to that existence.
I grew tired of being Marc Frank Montoya, the “cool guy” in demand, pulled around in every direction, doing autograph sessions, photo shoots, waking up when it’s still dark, before my kids even woke up. I started to hate being out in the cold doing manual labor, shoveling snow to make big jumps, and hiking uphill in powder all day, just to get back at 8pm, with no energy left to play with my own kids.
Being the “super cool pro snowboarders” we were, we would forever have to rush to the places around the world that had good snow and do a ton of heavy work, filming, hiking, and then hurry and rush back out of town to film the next spot. We were always in the cold, even when it was summertime here in the States! I hated that! I wanted to be at the beach! There was no chilling in other countries to do touristy stuff, experiencing the world cultures, or really relaxing for too long. It was always work work work, hike, shovel, take pictures, sign autographs, a quick belligerent party at the end, and then rush out all hung over on the flight back home, LOL!
After a while you get tired of that, especially if your kids and loved ones are waiting for you at home. It became painful to be at work most of the time, missing the most important things in life.
So I stacked some dough and launched a few small businesses. This was a huge turning point, but not in a good way. As a traditional business owner, my lifestyle went to crap, and immediately got 10 times worse. I quickly went from traveling the world, to being a slave to my businesses, stuck working indoors, all day, away from my kids, chasing the money, with tons of responsibility. I felt stressed, overworked, and we had huge deadlines, every year, and risk that would keep me up at night, so no sleep.
At one point, I just wanted to give in and get some job where I wouldn’t have all the stress. I could just show up and have someone tell me what to do, so I wouldn’t have to think all the damn time!
What else could I do?
I was still psychologically unemployable, so I couldn’t go back to the life of working 50-60 hours/week, making someone else rich for a tiny wage. Definitely not an option for people like me who have tasted freedom. I would stay up thinking and searching…
So, my solution after tons of research, wealth books, and due diligence:
Drop my ridiculous ego and build my own Home Business.
This catchy phrase “making money while you sleep” may seem silly to the few who don’t believe it’s possible. But most people in today’s world know how ridiculously simple it can, especially if you’re willing to adapt to these more efficient business models. I saw this with old mom and pop snowboard shops. Those who don’t adapt and get online, fall behind the bubble and struggle. The internet is open 24 hours, and if once you put something online, it stays there! And everyone buys online now, to cut out the middle man old school brick and mortar stores. And everyone know you can make money from home now, by connecting customers to these companies! What a wonderful concept! Completely ridiculously wonderful!
If you have a passion and you learn to get good at spreading information on it, especially in the Information Age, you’re going to generate leveraged 24-7 income. The fact that everyone is now connected with social media makes it easier and faster to spread information. This information is online 24-7, and you cause customers, not just in the United States, but on the other side of the world, so while you’re sleeping, people are waking up in other countries, searching for things they want, and ordering products online. When they order, and you’ve caused those customers, you get paid, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, whether you work or not! LOL. How crazy dumb simple is that?
Anyway, for your enjoyment, I made a quick amateur video while I was on vacation in Boulder City, Nevada, at my mentor friends house. I forgot what I said on there now, but it’s pretty much the way we are able to condense about 30 years of hard work into 5 years of S.M.A.R.T. goals and work.
(Specific, Meaningful, Action-oriented, Realistic, Timely)
My wife and I now work from home, part time, with our cell phone and laptops, and we’re both always able to be present with the baby! I know a ton of fathers like mine, who support their family, but don’t really see their family so much. I know how painful that could be so I wanted to put this out there for you.
It’s not like we’re even Billionaires, but we do get to travel around with our laptops, building our business from anywhere in the world, with total freedom, creating #Fatherpreneur and #Motherpreneurs, all over the place!
This, of course, is not for everyone. You would have to be open-minded and coach-able, and it would take you a few months to learn some new strategy. Also some personal development and growth mindset. But holy crap, this stuff is so damn worth it, if you have kids that you want to be around, or a world you would like to travel.
Now, I can’t promise that we can make you millions, but what about an extra $40k or $80k/year?
Shoot, even an extra $2k/month is completely life-changing for most people, and it makes all the sense in the world, which is why you now see so many business owners and friends starting their own Home Business for even more channels of income.
This type of business asset will eventually create more financial and time freedom for you than anything else, because once you pay off your car and your house, and you have no bills, but you have $60k coming in, you’re now living a more quality, stress free lifestyle than most millionaires.
Imagine what would it mean for you, if you had more money and more time freedom for the most important things in your life? What if there was a way that you could build a better lifestyle than a pro snowboarder, right from your own home?
Could you suspend your disbelief long enough to find out how, and then do what it takes to get it?
